Artist Statement

I work with clay because it gives me the opportunity to completely express my creativity and engage in a physical, hands-on process with my artistic vision. My goal is to make pieces that portray complexity and emotion in addition to displaying the beauty and versatility of clay. By doing this, I hope to make people feel happy, curious, and thoughtful about what they see. My goal is for my work to act as a bridge between my inner and outside worlds, capturing both the universal ideas of growth and transformation as well as my own personal journey.

Throughout my creative process, I make choices depending on the topics that I want to explore and the basic features of the materials. I like clay because it's so complicated but yet simple a block of clay can turn into practically anything you feel or imagine. Clay allows me to play around with different shapes and textures. I use a variety of techniques in my work, including glazing, sculpting, and wheel throwing since they all help me encaptivate my vision. I find the connection between form and function to be fascinating, and I frequently use additional materials to give my creations greater meaning and complexity. My themes come from my personal experiences, who I am, and the world around me, showing an appreciation for detail and the natural beauty in everyday objects.

My current clay projects are the continuation and development of my earlier work. It grew from my first projects in my freshman year of high school, when I fell in love with working with this medium. I'm now exploring clay's abilities further and pushing the limits of what I can make. I am trying to push myself and my audience to go past the obvious by looking at themes of transformation, identity, and connection. Every art piece is a teaching tool, and a journey of self-discovery that helps me understand the material and myself better. Through my art I aim to inspire others to realize the potential and beauty in the world around them.
